Happy Birthday Dad

My father had written some books along time ago and had attempted to try and get one published. He found-out rapidly that publishing your book is easier said than actually done so disappointed and a little aggravated he abandoned his efforts in getting published.

Skip forward, 8 or 9 years…. I found a copy of one of his books while moving stuff around the house and thought, Hmm Dad’s birthday is coming up in a few months wouldn’t it be cool if I could get his books published.

I like him knew little to nothing about publishing a book so off I went into the Internet to discover how this was done. I was over whelmed with information of how to and do’s and don’ts, what not’s and what is, who is and who’s not and most of all the FORGET IT, IT WILL NEVER HAPPENS that I ran into the most.

Now I was not looking for a miracle, I just wanted to make my Dad smile so eventually I ran across this self-publishing site called Lulu. Lulu is a site where you can self-publish your books they even help you in doing so.

To make a long story short and many days of work later… My Dad’s books are published (W/out ISBNs wow $$$$)., he even has his own store front at http://stores.lulu.com/richard_baker

I ordered a set and sent them to him and it worked it brought a smile to his face, I received the following emails;

You really know how to choke your Dad up.
What a supprise I found in the mail today. I never thought I would ever see those in book form. I also saw where my “Paragraph” went. You have touched my heart more than I could ever tell you. And those pictures of Zeke…..He has to be the most beautiful baby in the world. Now all you have to do is give him a ball to dance around with as you take a movie of him. I never got to show yours to Janet. But the projector and films are here waiting for you.
Love and Hugs, Dad

When I saw the package was from you I knew it was your present to me. I was a weak person and couldn’t put it aside until my birthday. As it works out it is probably the best present I have received since you were born.
Love and Hugs,
Dad

    Interesting. I worked as editor for a self-publishing firm in Cebu before. It’s based in the States, but the editing and cover were outsourced.
    That was a nice present. Books are for posterity, you know. There’s nothing like reading your own thoughts. Money can’t buy that kind of self-satisfaction.
